I have just been in one of the shops on Dalston Lane and the shopkeepers have received an incredible letter from Guy Nicholson. It says (I paraphrase) that Hackney cherishes the built environment (!) and is very keen to preserve the historic properties of Dalston Lane. With this in mind, and also bearing in mind the terrible state of disrepair some of the properties have got into (o really? and how did that come about????), Hackney would now like to consult with tenants and freeholders in order to see what can be done. Please ring the following number...(And then, when you do ring it, there's no reply!)
But what's going on here? Window-dressing before the Olympics? Or what?
