There used to be a stall at the top of Ridley Road that sold ska records. Does anyone remember the Chez Don? The Rolling Stones did one of their first gigs there! Dalston Junction station ticket hall was a slot machine place called Fairies in the 60s when I lived there. Happy memories, and we had one of the first Wimpy Bars opposite Ridley Road. He lived in Salisbury Road and referred to meeting her to go dancing at Gothie or Sothie House (the writing is a bit scratchy). Soon, on my left from the bus I saw a magnificent ornate building, a theatre, but dilapidated. I meant to come back to photograph it. I didn't until last Sunday when I went all the way to Homerton, eyes peeled, and back. Did not find it. Went again today and towards the crossroads at Dalstan Junction I noticed a gap in the buildings. Maybe this was it? demolished? Took note of Dalston Lane and googled the theatre. And here I am, reading of this and other demolitions. I should have come the day after I saw the theatre the first time round.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17058149923023197550noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14932341.post-6182167258399223872012-01-17T19:04:42.705+00:002012-01-17T19:04:42.705+00:00A sad and sadly familiar tale of extraordinarily n...A sad and sadly familiar tale of extraordinarily narrow-minded self-servers, forcing through the things that suit them, in the name of the Community. I was at the final meeting where a deal seemed to already exist between the Council and the Contractor and the Chairperson asked for the Commnity to be ejected from the room and called the Police.
